Willie Jones Obituary

Willie Lee Carroll Jones was born August 18, 1934, to the late Aretha Bland Carroll and Lezell Carroll in Pettus, Arkansas. Affectionately known as Lee, she was second of nine siblings. Lee united with St. John Baptist Church in Lonoke, Arkansas under the leadership of Rev. Preston Benson. While in Detroit, she fellowshipped with various churches.

Lee attended the Colored School in Lonoke County. In 1953, she moved to Detroit, Michigan and later met the love of her life Eli Jones Jr. They were blessed with two children, Henry Jones and the late Gwendolyn Jones Knight. Through this joy, a granddaughter Lashonda (Mario) Powell was born. Lee held a special place in her heart for her great-grandson Marshawn Powell.

Lee is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, and three sisters Niecy Jenkins, Marilyn Carroll and Mary Jean Carroll, and a brother Gene Edward Carroll.

Grateful for the time spent with her and expecting to see her again are her son Henry Jones, granddaughter Lashonda Powell, great-grandson Marshawn Powell; sisters Eunice Qualls, Alice Williams, Ann Burnett, Aretha Taylor and Barbara Jackson; brothers Herschel Carroll and Lezell Carroll, a host of other relatives and friends
