Obituary

Mother Bessie Ann Romes was born April 23, 1938 to the late Leola Martin and Elijah Smith in Lonoke County. She was preceded in death by her mother, Leola Martin; father Elijah Smith; brother, Jonathan; sisters, Jewel Haire, Mattie Horne, and Mary Francis Smith; half-brother, Toney Smith and half-sister, Elnora Knighten.

Mother Bessie Romes attended Scipio A. Jones High School in North Little Rock. Mother Romes worked at Timex until her health failed. She confessed a hope in Christ in 1948 at New Hebron Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas under the leadership of Rev. T. G. Sims, Pastor. Mother Romes united with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, North Little Rock in 1952 under the leadership of Rev. N. K. Curry, Pastor. Her service to the Father at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church was extensive. Mother Romes was a Sunday School Teacher for Class #2 for many years. She was a mentor to young ladies and teenage girls. She also sang with the Inspirational Choir.

On April 9, 1987 she met the love of her life, Deacon Jerry Romes and two families were united.

Mother Bessie Romes leaves to cherish her life, her devoted husband, Deacon Jerry Romes; sons, Kenneth Tayborn, Jerry Romes Jr., Darrell Romes, Rod Romes and Marvin Romes; daughters, Sherry Romes and Karen Wilson; grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
