Daniel Lee Nellums, Sr. affectionately known as DL, was born on January 2, 1955, in Altheimer, Arkansas to Willie and Katherine Dodson Nellums. He stepped into Paradise on August 7, 2023. Daniel was an avid fisherman, hunter, trapper, and he dearly loved spending time with his brothers especially Matthew- his best friend.
Daniel is preceded in death by his father, mother, one sister- Zimmie Jean Mitchell and one brother- Willie Lee Nellums.
Daniel held many different jobs over time: JR Evans Farm, Smith Farm, AP&L Electric Company, Riceland, Southern Star, US Trucking, McConnell and Sons Trucking, and Lonoke Primary School. DL enjoyed taking Karate, being a Boy Scout Leader, working with the youth at the Brown Street Church of Christ. At one point, Daniel owned his own business, The Shoeshine Shop, which doubled as a shoe repair store and African American Hair Supply.
Daniel met the love of his life, Karen L. Jones in 1974. Karen taught Daniel the gospel and he was baptized in 1975 at the Brown Street Church of Christ in Lonoke, Arkansas under the leadership of Bro. Robert Waller. Daniel served as a Song Leader and Elder, faithfully until his health began to fail. He loved leading songs and singing whenever he was called upon to do so. Some of his favorite songs were, "Just a Little Talk with Jesus," "Mansion, Robe, and Crown," "Your Grace and Mercy," "Heaven's on the Other Side," "God is Good," and "Yes, God is Real."
DL is survived by his favorite girl, his wife of 47 years, Karen L. Nellums, five children Dawnielle Nellums-Dockery, Daniel L. Nellums, Jr., Mareshah L. Silas (Lonnell), Dandridge H. Nellums, and Sasha M. Nellums; one very special granddaughter that he raised, Graison M. King; grandsons Corbin and Chaston Dockery, Joseph and Jayden Mays, Jordan D. Nellums, and Adain C. Nellums; very special Godsons-Byron Jackson and Cody McArthur. He also leaves to cherish his memory his siblings: Jesse (Annette) Nellan, Shirley Jean Nellums, Cassie Mae (Willie) Freeman, Arthur (Freda) Nellums, Matthew Nellums, Gladys (Elmer) Mayfield, Thomas (Marie) Nellums, Wayne Nellums, Charles (Mary) Nellums; a very special Niece- Yvonne Freeman, a special nephew- Curtis Burnett, a host of nieces, nephews, the Jones Family (in-laws), other relatives and friends.
