Herles Holmes Obituary

Herles Lee Holmes was born in Scott, Arkansas to Lillian Cambell and William Holmes. Herles would attend church regularly with his family and accepted Christ at an early age.

After graduating from Carver High School (Lonoke, Arkansas) in 1963, he moved to Los Angeles, California and did various jobs such as modeling, factory work and delivery work.

He later joined Bethany Apostolic Church (Greater Bethany Community Church) where he would accept his call to the ministry under the pastoral leadership of the late Bishop R.W. McMurray. Herles would continue to serve God in ministry in roles such as pastor, evangelist and group leader throughout his life.

He worked for Compton Unified School District as a utility driver and retired after 33 years of service.

Herles loved sports having played high school and league basketball. He later adopted a love for golf boasting that he had gotten several holes in one. He loved to fish. He also could be found enjoying meals at his favorite restaurant spots, Sizzler, Norms, Hometown Buffet and later Golden Corral.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children Tonya L. Holmes, Carlton Holmes and Angel L. Holmes, (all of Los Angeles, CA); 3 grandchildren: Leo Holmes, Ava Holmes and Carlton Holmes Jr., beloved aunt Arlene Woods of Compton, CA; brothers: Anthony Holmes (Carlene), Joe Holmes of Kerr, Arkansas;Theadore Holmes (Evelyn), Harold Morgan, Leandra Morgan (Gail), Joseph Morgan, all of Little Rock, Arkansas; sisters: Ruby Morgan of Richmond, CA, Jackline Cambell of CA, Maxine Sullivan (Bernard) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Lulla Morgan of Little Rock, Arkansas, Linda Scarborough (Arthur) of Lonoke, Arkansas, Carolyn Laster (Michael) of Jacksonville, Arkansas and Dorothy  Nelson (Barnes) of Mesquite, Texas, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, friends and many more to cherish his memory.

Herles is preceded in death by his, mother and father Lillian Cambell and William Holmes; siblings: Octavia Lindsey, Dorothy Cambell, Mary Holmes Johnson, Betty Jackson, Saul Morgan, Lester Holmes and Gloria Riggs.
