Johnny Lee Bunch (Hooker) was born January 15, 1952, in England, Arkansas to the late James Bunch Sr. and Freddie Mae Bunch. Hooker spent his early years in Chicago with family and that is where his legacy began with the birth of two sons, Terry and Demel. He relocated back to Arkansas and enlisted in the military serving 7 years in the Army National Guard. Hooker worked at Lonoke School for 27 years before retiring in 2012.
On October 22, 1976, Hooker and Rita united in holy matrimony and welcomed their baby girl Tandeka in 1977.
Hooker served as a proud member of the M.W. Prince Hall Masons Retrieved Lodge #134 Arkansas Jurisdiction. He was a faithful member of Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Cleo Nellum Sr. Hooker served on the Deacon Board and was a member of the Choir and Male Chorus where he was lead singer for "Show Me The Way."
Death at 72 years of age was never in his 5- or 10-year plan, especially having the privilege of witnessing his grandchildren grow up. In his eyes, all seven were the epitome of perfection as he watched them excel into adulthood and reap the benefits of their grandparents' prayers. Hooker's love expanded into another generation with the blessing of his "Mini Me" great-grandchild.
Hooker is proceeded in death by his parents and son Terry Washington.
Hooker passed away peacefully at Baptist Health Medical Center on September 11, 2024. After days of fighting, Hooker finally won and now sit at the feet of Jesus! He was blessed to live his final days in the comfort of his home with family and friends.
