Robert Earl Calhoun Sr, 73 of Lonoke, Arkansas went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. He was born on August 11, 1949 to the late Marshall Calhoun and Earnesteen(Dodson) Roberson.
Robert was born and raised in Lonoke, AR. He graduated from Carver High School in 1968 and continued his education at Philander Smith College on a basketball scholarship. A talented basketball player, he was on the starting lineup as a freshman and was selected as team captain of the Philander Smith College basketball team as a sophomore.
Robert became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc in Fall 1969 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education with a minor in Biology from Philander Smith College in 1972.
Robert’s professional career included working for Southwestern Bell, Little Rock School District, and Pulaski County Special School District, but his true passion was hunting, fishing and all things sports related. Affectionately known as “Calhoun”, he was a skilled building engineer, electrician, and information technology specialist; completing both small and large jobs all across the city.
Robert was preceded in death by his father Marshall Calhoun; mother Earnesteen Roberson; brothers George Roberson Jr, Leonard Roberson, Floyd Dean Calhoun, Edgar Bernard Calhoun; and sisters CeCill Roberson, and Marsha Ann Calhoun.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving partner Vera Bickerstaff of Little Rock, AR; his children Preston, Eric (Janine), Kendrick, Antika (Victor), Akilah, Robert II, Malinka, and Randall; siblings Beverly Brown, Bernestine Mays, Patricia Roberson; Norma Faye Calhoun, Florence Jean Rigmaiden, Ruby Joyce Calhoun and Sharon Louise Calhoun, sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives, fraternity brothers, and friends.
