Shirley L. Sawyer

Shirley L. Sawyer was born August 6, 1948 to the late Herman Matthews and Florene Davis in Little Rock, Arkansas. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior during middle age on Tatum Street in Little Rock. Shirley was raised in Little Rock and attended the Little Rock School District.

At the age of forty she married the love of her life, Johnny Sawyer Sr. They were married for thirty-three years. Shirley had eight children, Sherri Miller, Willie Miller Sr. (Delora), Tangela Harris (Rodrick), Rodney Miller Sr., Myron Sawyer, Johnny Sawyer Jr., Aisha Sawyer (D.A.) and Leshia Allison (Romon). Shirley worked for Employment Security Division as a Data Entry Clerk, Days Inn Motel as a laundry attendant and secretary for Sawyer Lawn Service, which she and her husband Johnny were owners.

Momma loved shopping, sewing, British comedy sitcoms, music, crossword puzzles, flowers, peace and quiet. She enjoyed the small things in life with the time God gave her. Shirley was full of life and love, but also knew how to guard her heart. Her laughter, smile and encouraging words were the best. She loved her family deeply even if she had to "feed them with a long handle spoon." Momma was straight forward and always spoke her mind. A beautiful woman who taught us to treat people the way we want to be treated. She touched the lives of many in her own way.

On Monday, August 9, 2021 the Lord called Mrs. Shirley L. Sawyer home from labor to reward.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Florene Davis, father, Herman Matthews, daughter, Sherri Miller, son, Johnny Sawyer, sister, Nealy Rhodes, brothers, Larry Matthews Sr. and Doyle J. Williams, two grandchildren, Kevin Shelton and Earl Shelton Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories, husband Johnny Sawyer Sr., children, Willie Miller Sr., Rodney Miller, Tangela Harris, Myron Sawyer, Aisha Sawyer and Leshia Allison, grandchildren, Marcus Miller, Willie Miller Jr., Rodney Miller Jr., Shanice Shelton, Jada Shelton, Jameshia Shelton, Samuel Shelton, Chris Miller, Lekesia Graydon, Kendrick Graydon, Kendall Graydon, Cantrell Graydon, Nyeisha Graydon and Janyia Sawyer, great-grandchildren, Javonte Davis Jr., Kodi Davis, Niarobi Graydon, Za'moria Dobbins, Amori "J" Williams, Kha'mori Flowers and Cruze Miller, siblings, Valerie Bailey, Carl Lee Bailey, Joe Bailey, Lavetrice Maha, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
